Chepkorir Happiness, Carlos’ sister, has narrated her brother’s last moments before the tragic helicopter crash that claimed his life in Mosop, Nandi County.
Speaking to the media while fighting back tears, the inconsolable sister recalled how her brother, Robert Keter, popularly known as Carlos, called her just hours before the fatal accident.
Carlos was among the six people who died in the helicopter crash that also claimed the life of Emurua Dikirr Member of Parliament, Johana Ng'eno.
Chepkorir said the call came in late at night at exactly 11:45 p.m. According to her, Carlos sounded calm and normal during the conversation, giving no sign that anything was wrong.
“He called me at 11:45 p.m. and asked if I could send him Sh1,000,” she said. “He promised that he would refund the money after completing his journey. He told me not to worry.”
She explained that her brother did not sound distressed or afraid. Instead, he spoke in a relaxed tone and even assured her that everything was fine.
She said she did not hesitate to help him because they were very close and often supported each other.
Chepkorir added that the conversation was short but meaningful. She never imagined it would be the last time she would hear her brother’s voice.
“A few hours later, we received news that the helicopter he was travelling in had crashed in Mosop. I could not believe it,” she said as tears flowed down her face. “I kept checking my phone hoping he would call again.”
Family members say Carlos was a newly employed teacher who had recently secured a job and was looking forward to receiving his first salary.
He had big dreams of supporting his parents and siblings and improving their home.
The tragic accident has left the family devastated, with relatives and neighbours visiting their home in Chemina village, Emurua Dikirr, to offer comfort and support.
Chepkorir described her brother as kind, responsible, and full of hope for the future.
She said he always prioritized his family and was determined to change their lives for the better.
