In Kenyan politics, confidence is everything — and when two strong personalities share the same party, the public naturally wants to know: who is the boss?
That question has often surrounded Babu Owino and Edwin Sifuna, two outspoken leaders from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
Both are influential. Both are vocal. And both command serious support, especially in Nairobi.
Babu Owino serves as the Member of Parliament for Embakasi East. Known for his fiery speeches and bold political style, he has built a reputation as a fearless defender of his constituents.
On the other hand, Edwin Sifuna is the Senator for Nairobi County and also serves as the Secretary General of ODM. Calm but sharp, Sifuna plays a key role in managing party affairs at the national level.
So, who is the boss?
The answer depends on where you are looking.
In Parliament, neither man is above the other. An MP and a Senator have different constitutional responsibilities. MPs focus on representing specific constituencies and handling legislation in the National Assembly.
Senators represent counties and protect the interests of county governments in the Senate. They operate in separate houses, meaning one cannot command the other.
Within the ODM party structure, however, Sifuna holds an administrative advantage. As Secretary General, he is responsible for coordinating party activities, communication, and strategy. In that sense, he occupies a senior party office.
Babu Owino has addressed the issue in a light-hearted way before, making it clear that they are colleagues, not rivals.
He acknowledges party structures while also affirming his own independent mandate from the people of Embakasi East.
The real story is not about who commands whom. It is about influence. Both leaders are powerful voices in Nairobi politics.
Both are loyal to ODM. And both understand that political strength is not just about titles, but about connection with the people.
In the end, politics is less about who is “boss” and more about who delivers results. For now, Babu Owino and Edwin Sifuna remain teammates in the same political camp — each strong in his own lane, each playing a different but important role.
