Man Dies After Alleged Beating by Military Officer in Umoja, Family Demands Justice

A family in Umoja 1 estate, Nairobi, is demanding justice after their relative died following an alleged beating by a military officer.

The incident has caused anger and fear among residents, with many calling for accountability from security agencies.

The man who died has been identified as Alphy Migasha, a resident of the area. According to his family and witnesses, the incident happened outside a local drinking joint in Umoja.

Alphy was reportedly confronted by a military officer who is well known in the neighbourhood. What started as a brief interaction quickly turned violent.

Witnesses say the officer assaulted Alphy, throwing him to the ground and repeatedly beating him. People nearby tried to intervene, but the situation escalated quickly.

After the beating, the officer allegedly walked away, leaving Alphy badly injured. Members of the public later rushed to help him and alerted his family.

Alphy was taken to hospital for treatment, but his condition worsened. He later died from the injuries he had sustained. His death has left the family devastated and searching for answers.

They say Alphy was unarmed and did not pose any threat at the time of the attack.

The family has accused authorities of delaying action against the suspect. They claim that despite the seriousness of the incident, the military officer involved has not been arrested.

This has raised concerns about possible protection of uniformed officers and unequal treatment before the law.

Police at Buruburu Police Station have confirmed that the matter is under investigation. They stated that further action will depend on the results of an autopsy, which is expected to establish the exact cause of death. Investigators have also recorded statements from witnesses as part of the ongoing probe.

Meanwhile, CCTV footage circulating among residents is said to show parts of the incident. The video reportedly captures the officer confronting and assaulting Alphy as people around attempted to stop the attack. The footage has increased public pressure for swift and transparent investigations.

Human rights activists and community leaders have condemned the incident. They are calling on the Directorate of Criminal Investigations and military authorities to ensure justice is served. They argue that wearing a uniform should not place anyone above the law.

As the family mourns their loss, they say they will continue pushing for justice until those responsible are held accountable.

The case has once again sparked debate about police and military conduct, and the need to protect civilians from abuse of power.
