Retired teacher Lydia Wangare Mwangi has made a heartfelt appeal to Kenyans after she was faced with the possibility of losing her land worth KSh 10 million over a much smaller debt.
Speaking during an interview, Wangare said the situation has left her stressed and worried about her future. She explained that the piece of land is the most valuable property she owns after spending many years working as a teacher.
According to her, the land was meant to support her during retirement and also be passed down to her children.
Wangare revealed that her troubles began after she failed to clear a smaller loan on time.
This led to legal action that now puts her ownership of the land at risk.
She said the amount she owes is very small compared to the value of the plot, making the situation unfair and painful.
“I worked hard all my life as a teacher to invest in this land,” she said.
“It is heartbreaking to think that I may lose everything because of a small debt.”
The retired teacher is now asking well-wishers and leaders across the country to help her raise the required amount of money so she can settle the debt and keep her property.
She also appealed to relevant authorities to review her case and ensure she is treated fairly.
Her story has touched many Kenyans, especially on social media, where people have expressed sympathy and called for support.
Some have urged financial institutions to be more flexible when dealing with vulnerable individuals like retirees.
As the deadline approaches, Wangare remains hopeful that help will come her way and that she will be able to save the land she worked so hard to acquire.
