The life and times of Johana Ng'eno; the MP who served until his last breath

President William Ruto has directed that one of Nairobi’s oldest estates, Shauri Moyo, be renamed in honour of the late Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ng’eno.
Speaking during Ng’eno’s burial on Friday, the President said the move was meant to recognise the legislator’s contribution to the government’s Affordable Housing Programme.
Ruto announced that the estate will now be known as Johana Ng’eno Boma Yangu Estate, praising the late MP’s role in ensuring the success of the housing initiative.
“Because Johana Ng’eno was the chairman who ensured that we succeeded in the housing project, we have recommended that one of the biggest estates in Nairobi, called Shauri Moyo, be named after Johanna Ng’eno Boma Yangu Estate,” the President said.
The Head of State further directed the Ministry of Housing to implement the change, formally renaming the estate in honour of the late legislator.

“Therefore, I am directing the Ministry of Housing to rename Shauri Moyo to Johana Ngeno estate in the city of Nairobi,” Ruto announced.
Ng’eno, who served as the chairperson of the National Assembly Departmental Committee on Housing, Urban Planning and Public Works, died in a helicopter crash in Nandi County on February 28, 2026, alongside five other people.
He was laid to rest on Friday at his home in Emurua Dikirr, Narok County, with national leaders attending the burial to honour his legacy and contributions to Parliament and the housing sector.
The renaming of Shauri Moyo estate is expected to serve as a lasting tribute to the late MP’s role in advancing the government’s flagship housing agenda.
