A Kenyan man identified as Denis Mokaya is appealing to the Kenyan government for urgent assistance after surviving a devastating drone strike that left him seriously injured and confined to a hospital bed in Russia.
Mokaya, who travelled abroad in search of better opportunities, now finds himself thousands of kilometres away from home, battling injuries and uncertainty about his future.
Speaking from his hospital bed, the distressed Kenyan said he is desperate to return home and reunite with his family.
According to Mokaya, the drone strike occurred during a violent incident in the area where he was staying.
The explosion left several people injured, with Mokaya among those who survived but sustained severe injuries that require medical care and prolonged recovery.
The injured man said the experience has been terrifying and life-changing. He revealed that while doctors have been attending to him, he is struggling emotionally and financially in a foreign country with limited support.
“I just want to go back home to Kenya and be with my family,” Mokaya reportedly pleaded, calling on the Kenyan government and relevant authorities to intervene and facilitate his evacuation.
His appeal has sparked concern among Kenyans online, with many urging the government to step in through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to ensure he receives the necessary assistance and is safely repatriated.
Cases of Kenyans stranded abroad due to conflict, medical emergencies, or job-related challenges have occasionally drawn national attention, often prompting government intervention to bring affected citizens home.
As Mokaya continues his recovery in the Russian hospital, his hope remains that his plea will reach authorities in Nairobi and that arrangements will soon be made for him to return to the country he calls home.
