Governor Orengo, Senator Edwin Sifuna,Pauline Njoroge, and other ODM leaders walked toward Ufungamano House amid heightened tension. Their arrival followed a standoff with police who had blocked access to the venue.
The Sifuna-led faction, accompanied by a group of youths, bypassed police barricades to gain entry. Security officers had parked several trucks outside, restricting movement and signaling the authorities’ intent to monitor party activities closely.
Senator Edwin Sifuna said the group had submitted a notice to hold the meeting in advance. He emphasized that the gathering was routine, but the police presence disrupted arrangements and caused confusion among party members.
Inside Ufungamano House, party leaders maintained focus on the agenda. Despite the charged atmosphere, discussions continued orderly, with participants emphasizing unity and the importance of dialogue as ODM navigates ongoing internal leadership disputes.
Several youths cheered Sifuna as he and other leaders walked past barricades. Their support highlighted loyalty to the senator and indicated persistent divisions within ODM, which have intensified ahead of upcoming party elections.
Police officers, while not blocking entry physically, monitored proceedings closely. Their presence inside and outside the building ensured control over movements and underscored tensions surrounding the political gathering.
Analysts described the faction’s actions as a calculated assertion of authority. The move was seen as a clear signal that Sifuna’s group would not be intimidated or prevented from holding party meetings.
Speaking to journalists outside Ufungamano House, Senator Sifuna said: “We gave a notice that we would hold a meeting here at Ufungamano House, but unfortunately, police trucks are parked outside. We are determined to proceed peacefully.”
