Renowned lawyer Nelson Havi has put the government on the spot demanding to know who exactly ordered the brutal attack on Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi in Kisumu days ago.
Writing on X Havi stated that the state has a responsibility to protect its citizens or come clean about who is behind the violence.
"If it is not Raymond Omollo who ordered the attack then who did? The order was given by someone. Those imbeciles seen with Omollo did not act on their own," Havi posted.
Havi's words cut through the political noise at a time when Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen was busy pointing fingers at the opposition.
Murkomen on Friday directed Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja to immediately arrest individuals he described as goons linked to opposition leaders. He issued the directive at the burial of Mitchelle Jelimo Kemboi in Nakuru County.
Murkomen accused sections of the opposition of hiring goons to disrupt events and undermine public order. He further claimed they were deliberately trying to link Interior PS Raymond Omollo to the same criminal groups.
He appeared visibly angry as he gave the order before mourners at the Nakuru burial.
"I want to dare them to come out and denounce the goons they are walking and working with. I want to ask the Inspector General to move with speed and arrest all those boys they work with so that they can become an example," Murkomen declared.
He went further accusing some opposition figures of being the very people who recruit goons while pretending to lecture the public about lawlessness.
He vowed the government would act without fear or favour to rid the country of political thugs.
Meanwhile a Kisumu court ordered suspects linked to the Osotsi attack to remain in custody for seven days as investigations continue.
Resident Magistrate Daniel Chumba also directed a forensic audit of the CCTV footage that captured the assault. Prosecutors have recommended charges of robbery with violence against the suspects.
PS Omollo himself condemned the attack saying any leader who uses goons must face the full force of the law. Senator Osotsi was airlifted to a Nairobi hospital where he remains admitted after sustaining serious injuries.
With Havi's question still hanging in the air and suspects in custody Kenya waits to see whether the truth about who gave the orders will never fade away from government officials.
