Horror as plane hits power lines and crashes into parking lot in Los Angeles

A terrifying incident was captured on video after a small aircraft crashed into a parking lot in Pacoima, Los Angeles, shortly after striking high voltage power lines.

According to reports, the single engine Cessna Skyhawk had been airborne for less than 10 minutes after departing from Whiteman Airport when the pilot encountered trouble while attempting to land.

The aircraft clipped power lines, triggering a bright explosion before losing control and descending rapidly toward the ground.

Dashcam footage showed the plane crossing over a busy road before slamming into a parking lot near an auto parts store, narrowly avoiding nearby vehicles and pedestrians. The impact left the aircraft badly damaged and overturned, with fuel reportedly leaking from the wreckage.

The pilot, a 72 year old man who was the sole occupant, sustained critical injuries. Witnesses at the scene quickly rushed to help, with Good Samaritans pulling him from the wreckage before emergency responders arrived. He was later transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

Authorities confirmed that no other injuries were reported despite the dramatic nature of the crash. However, the collision caused power outages in the surrounding area, affecting nearby homes and businesses as emergency crews worked to secure the scene.

The incident has reignited concerns among local residents about safety around the airport, with some calling for its closure due to repeated accidents and environmental concerns. Investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing.
