Gachagua Has Fuelled a Major Political Storm, After Linking the MP's Death to Fierce Political Rival

Investigations into the death of Emurua Dikirr MP Johanna Ngeno have taken a new political twist after former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua linked the tragedy to past political rivalries.

Speaking during a church service on Sunday, March 1, 2026, Gachagua claimed that Ngeno’s troubles began at the height of his 2024 fallout with President William Ruto.

According to him, the late legislator opposed the impeachment push against him and consequently faced hostility from powerful figures within government circles.

Gachagua alleged that on the eve of the impeachment proceedings in 2024, Ng’eno travelled to Kisumu to meet him.

He claimed the meeting was secretly recorded by officers from the National Intelligence Service and that Ngeno was later questioned over his position on the impeachment process.

The former deputy president further stated that even after he left office, Ngeno continued to face pressure from senior leaders allied to the President.

He mentioned Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen and Senator Aaron Cheruiyot, alleging that they frustrated the MP’s political ambitions within the South Rift region.

Gachagua urged Murkomen to step aside to allow what he termed as an independent and transparent investigation into the plane crash that claimed Ngeno’s life.

He argued that separating political interests from the inquiry would help assure the family and the public of fairness.

The remarks have intensified debate around the circumstances of Ngeno’s death, even as authorities continue with investigations to establish the cause of the crash.
