Former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju has raised concerns over the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), accusing the agency of failing to act on threats to his safety.
Tuju says he had earlier reported two individuals trailing him, but claims no steps were taken. His fears intensified after a dramatic car chase in Karen that forced him to abandon his vehicle.
His close associate, Steve Mwanga, remains in police custody under unclear circumstances. Tuju alleges Mwanga’s arrest is linked to the same unresolved matter. He further revealed that his health is fragile and that he will travel to South Africa for specialized medical treatment.
The former Jubilee Party Secretary‑General was rushed to Karen Hospital after his condition worsened while in custody. His family and lawyers had pressed for immediate medical attention, citing his deteriorating state.
Tuju’s troubles began after he disappeared on March 20 alongside Mwanga, prompting a missing person report at Karen Police Station. His vehicle was later found abandoned with hazard lights still on, and his phone switched off, raising alarm among his relatives and authorities.
He resurfaced days later and was arrested on March 23 in an incident captured on camera. Police later explained that investigations had concluded Tuju’s disappearance was staged.
The DCI maintained that his arrest was necessary to clarify inconsistencies in his account. Tuju, however, insists that the threats against him are real and that authorities have ignored his complaints.
