EXPOSED: DCI Finally Reveals The Amount 2 Hitmen Were Paid After Killing College Student In Kisumu

Directorate of Criminal Investigations officers have finally revealed the amount a man paid two hitmen after killing his girlfriend and dumping her body in a thicket in Kisumu.

Investigators say the suspect, identified as Steven Colman Okoth, admitted that he hired two men and gave them Sh500 to carry out an attack on 21-year-old college student Rose Benta Apondi.

According to police, the events began on April 5, 2026, when Okoth visited Apondi at her residence in the Riat area of Kisumu.

During the visit, he reportedly accessed her phone and found WhatsApp messages suggesting she was planning a wedding with another man.

Detectives say this discovery angered him and set in motion the fatal plan.

Okoth later told investigators that he left the house briefly after informing Apondi he would return.

He then approached two individuals he did not know and asked them to discipline her.

Police state that he arranged to meet Apondi again, convincing her to accompany him to a nearby cyber café under the pretence of helping her apply for a job attachment.

Unaware of the danger, Apondi left her house at around 3pm.

As she approached the meeting point, she was ambushed by the two men, who forced her into a nearby thicket.

Authorities believe this is where she was killed.

Witnesses later reported seeing Okoth return to Apondi’s house at about 4pm.

Investigators say he used her phone to send messages to her sister and boyfriend before fleeing.

The case took a major turn when detectives traced Apondi’s phone to a compound in Milimani Estate where Okoth worked.

Although he initially denied involvement, officers later recovered the phone from a septic tank at the premises.

Under further questioning, he confessed and led police to the site where the body had been dumped six days after the killing.

The remains were found in a decomposed state, with signs that wild animals had interfered with the body.

It was moved to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary for postmortem examination.

Police are continuing with investigations as they search for the two accomplices. Okoth is expected to appear before the Maseno Law Courts on April 23 to face charges related to the murder.
