"Wananicheka na Kuniepuka" Kenyan Woman With Facial Hair Shares Heartbreaking Struggles With Society

Kenyan media personality Ann Njogu has opened up about the challenges she faces living with noticeable facial hair, sharing her experience in a candid interview on Inooro FM.

Speaking to radio host Joy wa Macharia, Njogu explained how what began as a few strands of hair gradually became something that attracted public attention and scrutiny.

Njogu said her facial hair initially appeared as a small patch. Hoping to manage it, she decided to shave using a razor.

However, she noted that after shaving, the hair grew back thicker and spread to other parts of her face. She cautioned women against shaving fine facial hair, explaining that it may worsen the situation rather than solve it.

She admitted that dealing with public reactions has not been easy. According to her, many people openly question her gender because of her appearance.

“People are not used to meeting someone who looks like this, so you will hear them saying someone’s daughter looks like a man or that she has a beard,” she said.

Njogu added that such remarks are hurtful and sometimes make her withdraw from social settings.

The media personality also recounted a distressing experience at a hospital. She said that when she sought medical attention from a gynecologist due to stomach pain, the doctor questioned her gender instead of focusing on her health concern.

The incident left her feeling uncomfortable and embarrassed, prompting her to leave the hospital without receiving treatment.

Despite the negative encounters, Njogu said her family has been supportive throughout her journey. She emphasized that her loved ones have never treated her differently because of her facial hair.

Their support, she noted, has helped her cope with criticism and maintain her confidence.

Through her story, Njogu highlighted the importance of empathy and understanding. She urged members of the public to avoid judging others based on their physical appearance and to choose kindness in their words and actions.
