A dark cloud has fallen over Kololo Junior School in Wakiso District after a 14-year-old Grade Five pupil was found dead inside the school dormitory on Tuesday night.
The pupil, identified as John Terry Kiseka, was discovered at around 8 pm by fellow learners who were returning to their dormitory after attending evening preparation classes.
According to preliminary police reports, the pupils were shocked to find Kiseka’s body hanging from a roofing pole inside the dormitory. A red scarf had been tied around his neck.
The frightened pupils immediately raised an alarm, attracting the attention of school staff.
The matter was later reported to police officers in Wakiso, who rushed to the school to examine the scene and begin investigations.
Police confirmed that the body was carefully removed from the dormitory and taken to a mortuary for a postmortem examination.
The postmortem is expected to help establish the exact cause of death and provide more clarity on what may have happened.
Following the incident, authorities arrested the school headteacher and the dormitory matron to assist with investigations.
Police said the two were taken into custody as part of routine procedures in cases involving the death of a minor in a school setting.
Investigators are seeking to determine whether there was any negligence, lack of supervision, or other factors that may have contributed to the tragic incident.
Detectives have since recorded statements from pupils, teachers, and other members of staff.
They are also trying to establish the events that led up to the pupil’s death, including whether he showed any signs of distress earlier in the day.
The tragic news has left parents and residents of Wakiso District in shock and sorrow.
Many parents have expressed deep concern about the safety of children in boarding schools and have called for a thorough and transparent investigation.
